Marketing, Communications and Outreach Librarian
McMaster University Libraries is seeking a creative, innovative and experienced librarian to provide leadership for the development, delivery and assessment of marketing, communications and outreach activities for the University Library.
This is a full-time continuing appointment reporting to the University Librarian.
The incumbent will promote awareness of the University Library through new Media and Social Software: Web 2.0 Marketing tactics, such as Viral Marketing through the use of Social Media. S/he will also promote an understanding of technology adoption in the libraries by marketing technology-based library initiatives to the university community. It is expected that the individual in this position will be responsible for increasing ties to the campus, local, provincial, and national library communities.
The successful candidate will:
· Develop a wide range of marketing, communications and outreach activities aimed at increasing awareness of library resources, services and facilities on campus and in the Hamilton community.
· Manage and supervise the production of key communications including the library blog and annual report. Also responsible for new initiatives including specialty brochures, research, fundraising/campaign and web communications and targeted marketing materials.
· Provide leadership for outreach to the Hamilton community, establishing formal relationships with area organizations such as the Hamilton Public Library and academic libraries
· Provide leadership for internal communications - Staff newsletters, departmental blogs, Intranet
· Collaborate with the Liaison Coordinator to develop, deliver and evaluate a marketing plan for the library?s new liaison programme.
· Promote general awareness of library trends and issues externally to the campus and Hamilton communities and internally with staff.
· Work with the Development Officer to promote the libraries among our current and potential donors
· Work with campus partners including Public Relations, Development, and Alumni Affairs.
· Work with student groups and student associations to promote awareness of the libraries among our student populations.
· As a Liaison Librarian, collaborate with faculty in designated academic departments and related campus partners (Centre for Leadership in Learning, etc.)
· Provide leadership for and contribute to library-wide projects.
· Research and prepare requests for grant funding in support of library activities.
· Provide Research Help Desk service approximately 4 hours per week. Provide specialized reference / research help service for the designated departments.
· Contribute to the knowledge base of the profession through research, publication, and professional engagement.
The successful candidate must hold a MLS from an ALA-accredited library school or information science program. S/he must also possess a strong knowledge of established and emerging marketing/communications methods and strategies. In particular s/he must demonstrate experience with social networking technologies and new media. The individual must have work experience in academic and public libraries and a record of working within the Ontario library community.
This position is included in the McMaster University Faculty Association (MUFA) for Librarians. The appointment will be made at Level 2 or 3. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position includes a competitive and comprehensive benefit package.
